Critérium du Dauphiné race 2021 - Finals - Les Gets

The final stage of the Criterium de Dauphine took place yesterday and the end of the course was in Les Gets. Mark walked into the village and positioned himself close to the finish, Ben walked George to and watched the race from the Joux-Plane, close to l’Hotty’s cafe, the pictures opposite were all taken by them.

For those of you not familiar with the Criterium du Dauphine, this is held over 8 stages, in June. The Criterium started in 1947, and apart from 2 years, has run every year since. It is a UCI event and is one of the 2 main events as a build up to the Tour de France. Whilst the total length is much shorter than the Tour de France, most of the stages are mountainous.

In addition to being an official event, the teams also use this to test their riders to see who is likely to be strongest for the Tour de France

Stage 8 ( yesterday) started at Lechere-Les-Bains, it when through Albertville, the climbed the Col des Aravis ( 1498m), then dropped into le Grand-Borand, then Col de Colibier, then the Joux-Plane.

This years, the first three in this final stage were:

  • 1st - Mark Padun of Bahrain Victorius
  • 2nd - Jonas Vinegaard of Jumbo Visma
  • 3rd - Patrick Komad of Bora Hansgrone

Mark took the pictures of the end of the race, Ben took the last picture, of the cyclists on the Joux Plane (as he was walking George).
